Sketchy habits

I need to make art daily. This is a rather recent intention, and I am going with the flow. No overthinking. Basically, I’m getting started immediately, and that is the most important thing.

Here’s my sketch for today. No kidlitart, just groceries.

Oatmeal breakfast

I am on holiday!

That means I've got a looot of time in the morning to sketch my breakfast while waiting for it to cool down 😋 Oh I am enjoying this so much!!!

...and I was sketching in my triad sketchbook, too, with just three colors:

French Ultramarine, Alizarin Crimson, Aureolin Yellow.

Art book corner

I've not been at home very much this past week, so I'm staying in for the weekend before it all starts over again next week. Home time ☺!
I sketched the corner of the room with all my art books. It's getting more difficult to fit them all into that bookcase. Not complaining at all though.

Goodbye cookies

It's my last day at work tomorrow. It's been a crazy year this year. In some ways I am sad to leave my fantastic team and colleages from the other departments. The relationship between work mates was one of a kind, and I will not be saying goodbye, because I made friends there and we will keep meeting up and hanging out.

On the other hand, it is time. 

Stress has worked its way right up to my gums which are painfully inflamed now.

I cannot even eat the yummy goodbye cookies I made tonight!

Clean

My job situation is currently quite shaky. I sincerely hope there will soon be some clarity, but I have no idea how it will continue after that. Still, anything is better than this uncertainty.

I try to meet this with some housework. At least one place that is tidy and clean.

My colleage Sandra and I treated ourselves to a hot sunny lunchtime urban sketching session. We shared our marketplace bench with two elderly Spaniards who were talking about wives, sisters, marriage, money, Switzerland and Spain nonstop.

It must have been a strange sight, two younger ladies totally absorbed in their pen and paper work - and two chatty pensioners who would not stop to even catch a breath for a second.

Meine Kollegin Sandra und ich gönnten uns eine heisse sonnige Mittagspause mit einer Urban Sketching session. Wir teilten uns die Sitzbank am Marktplatz mit zwei älteren Spaniern die nonstop über Ehefrauen, Schwestern, Geld, die Schweiz und Spanien redeten.
Es must schon sonderbar ausgesehen haben - zwei jüngere Ladies, total vom der Stift- und Papierarbeit absorbiert, und zwei geschwätzige Rentner, die noch nichtmal zum Luftholen eine Pause machen.

Coincidentally, I am doing my laundry today. My laundry days are Friday and Saturday, twice a month. I am sharing the machine with all the other parties in the house, and we don't have a tumble dryer. This kind of arrangement does not leave much room for spontaneity when it comes to weekend plans. However, I decided to plan most of my August and September weekends, so I am quite grateful to my neighbor who lives directly above the washing machine room and let me do my laundry on a Sunday.

One day I will have my own washing machine and tumble dryer. (!!!)

Zufälligerweise mache ich heute meine Wäsche. Meine Waschtage sind Freitag und Samstag, zweimal pro Monat. Ich teile mir die Waschmaschine mit allen anderen Mietparteien im Haus und wir haben keinen Trockner. Dieses Arrangement lässt wenig Raum für Spontanität, wenn es um Wochenendpläne geht. Ich habe jedoch die meisten meiner August- und Septemberwochenenden verplant, daher bin ich meiner Nachbarin, die direkt über den Waschmaschinenraum wohnt, sehr dankbar, dass sie mich an einem Sonntag Wäsche waschen lässt.

Irgendwann werde ich meine eigene Waschmaschine und Wäschetrockner haben. (!!!)

My dad always made sure we brushed our teeth properly. Once a week, we'd be brushing our teeth with Elmex gelée. For years, I was wearing braces and now I got a fairly nice smile.
This might seem a pretty random post, but if you had half your face numb right now and could not eat anything for fear of biting your tongue off, you'd be thinking about this kind of stuff too.

I was at the dentist today to get a filling renewed and boy was he effective with the anasthaesiac. The numbness has reached even my ear canal!

Mein Vater war immer sehr darauf bedacht, dass wir unsere Zähne ordentlich putzten. Einmal pro Woche haben wir sogar mit Elmex gelée gebürstet. Ich trug jahrelang Zahnspangen und habe jetzt ein ziemlich passables Lächeln.
Das mag ein sehr zusammenhangsloser Blogpost sein, aber wenn dein Gesicht gerade zur Hälfte betäubt wäre und du nichts äßest aus Angst, dass du dir die Zunge abbeissen könntest, dann würdest du dir auch über sowas Gedanken machen.

Ich war heute beim Zahnarzt um eine Füllung erneuert zu bekommen und... Junge, Junge war er gründlich mit seiner Betäubung! Das Taubheitsgefühl geht bis in meinen Gehörgang!

Draw the view from a window of your house, apartment, office, etc.

We have been hit hard by a heat wave. As I post this, the first rain is coming down with a vengeance and lightning strikes every minute. I was going to open the windows to let the cool air come in but that would just flood my flat!

Die Hitzewelle hat uns fest im Griff gehabt. Jetzt fällt der erste Regen mit aller Macht und Blitze schlagen jede Minute ein. Ich wollte eigentlich die Fenster öffnen, damit ein wenig kühle Luft hereinkommt, aber das würde nur meine Wohnung überfluten!

Didn't have the time to draw the whole thing, but I actually own a violin.
I bought it at a time in my life where I was in a job that showed me what I am not good at. On top of that, the dreams I had buried were challenged on a very personal level through that job.
Long story short - I bought that violin and to this day it represents that I want to stick to my dreams.
So, I don't have a spectacular drawing - but a meaningful story behind it.

Hatte nicht die Zeit, um das ganze Ding zu zeichnen, aber ich besitze tatsächlich eine Violine.
Ich kaufte sie zu einem Zeitpunkt, als mein damaliger Job mir all das zeigte, worin ich einfach nicht gut bin. Zusätzlich wurde meine verbuddelten Träume auf einer zu persönlichen Ebene durch diesen Job in Frage gestellt.
Lange Rede kurzer Sinn - ich kaufte diese Violine und bis zum heutigen Tag bedeutet sie für mich, dass ich meine Träume nicht aufgebe.
Diesmal habe ich keine spektakuläre Zeichnung anzubieten - aber eine tiefgehendere Geschichte dahinter.

I would have posted #16 much earlier but I could not for the world think of a tool that might be a favourite of mine. When I washed the dishes tonight though, I also washed my measuring cups. I had made a banana bread earlier this week and brought it to work. One last piece is still in the office kitchen, because no one wants to be the one who takes the last piece of cake.

Then I thought, those measuring cups have helped me make so many cakes, muffins and cookies that have in turn made so many people's days much brighter (and sweeter), they will be worthy to pose as a favourite tool.

#16 - Zeichne ein Lieblingsgerät

Ich hätte Nummer 16 viel früher gepostet, aber ich konnte beim besten Willen nicht entscheiden, was für ein Lieblingsgerät ich vielleicht haben könnte. Als ich aber heute Abend das Geschirr abwusch, habe ich auch meine Messbecher abgewaschen. Am Anfang der Woche buk ich Banan

Zu Beginn dieser Woche hatte ichein Bananebrot gebacken und brachte es mit auf die Arbeit. Ein letztes Stück ist noch in der Küche im Büro, denn niemand will derjenige sein, der das letzte Stück Kuchen nimmt.

Dann dachte ich daran, dass diese Messbecher mir geholfen haben, so viele Kuchen, Muffins und Cookies zu machen, die wiederum so vielen Menschen den Tag viel heller (und süßer) gemacht haben. Das hat sie qualifiziert, für Nummer 16 Modell zu stehen.

On my way to this tree, I passed my old neighbor lady who went for a walk with her dog. In fact, she sat down at the forest playground with some other elderly people from around the neighborhood.
I had to smile because it seemed they were plotting and scheming and had to meet in secret in the forest.

Auf meinem Weg zu diesem Baum kam ich an meiner Nachbarin (pensioniert) vorbei, die mit ihrem Hund Gassi ging. Tatsächlich liess sie sich beim Waldspielplatz nieder zusammen mit anderen älteren Herr- und Frauschaften. Ich musste lächeln, denn es hatte den Eindruck, als ob sie alle etwas ausheckten und sich dazu im Wald träfen.

I ordered this one at www.brille24.de for very little money, but as my eyes are so weak, the glass is very thick and they do not do that extra service of making the lenses nice and thin. So, I recommend this site to anyone with a need for just a little bit of vision correction.

Diese Brille habe ich für verglichenermaßen seeehr wenig Geld auf www.brille24.de ergattert. Meine Augen sind allerdings so schwach, dass die Glaslinsen richtig dick sind, und Brille24 macht den Extraservice des Linsen-schön-dünnmachen nicht. Also, ich empfehle diese Seite jedem, der nur eine geringe Sehkorrektur benötigt.
