Just a wee thank you

Just a wee thank you to all that visited my blog last month. I have, since June 2009, never hit the 1000-views mark, but in March 2012 it went just above 1660 views for some reason ☺.

Ein kleines Dankeschön an alle, die letzten Monat meinen Blog besucht haben. Seit Oktober 2009 habe ich nie die 1000 Seitenaufrufe pro Monat erreicht, aber im März 2012 waren es aus irgendeinem Grund knapp über 1660 Seitenaufrufe ☺.

Tour de Suisse

It's been sunny, rainy and windy today in Schaffhausen all at the same time today. The Tour de Suisse is coming through the city later on and this morning there were lots of preparations under way for the expected influx of cyclists. The old town is packed with funny looking vehicles, motor bikes, tents and barriers. Street signs have been added to tell VIPs, the press, police and the advertising cars where to park.

Most of public transport will cease for half a day between 1 and 6 pm (yes, and I don't have a car).

I just think it's cool Schaffhausen gets to be part of a nationwide event - if you're so close to the border it's almost as if you're already abroad.

PS The wind is howling outside. The cyclists will have to work really hard...

Es war heute bisher sowohl sonnig als auch regnerisch&windig in Schaffhausen. Die Tour de Suisse kommt bald durch die Stadt und heute Morgen gab es eine Menge Vorbereitungen für den erwarteten Zustrom von Radfahrern. Die Altstadt ist voll mit lustig aussehenden Fahrzeugen, Motorrädern, Zelten und Barrieren.
Straßenschilder wurden hinzugefügt, um die VIPs, Presse, Polizei und die Werbungs-Autos zu ihren jeweiligen Parkplätzen zu dirigieren. Der öffentliche Verkehr kommt für einen halben Tag zwischen 13.00 und 18.00 Uhr (ja, und ich habe kein Auto) zum Erliegen.
Ich finde es cool, dass Schaffhausen heute Teil einer solch grossen landesweiten Veranstaltung sein kann - wenn man sich so nah an der Grenze befindet, kommt man sich schon halb wie "Ausland" vor.

PS Mittlerweile heult der Wind draussen regelrecht. Die Fahrradprofis werden heute schuften müssen...

The end has begun

Das Ende hat begonnen

Today I registered for my final examination: the Bachelor thesis! I'll write about "The history and development of diphthongs in three Southern hemisphere varieties of English" and the official writing period will be from June 1st - July 15th. Not so long anymore...

Heute habe ich mich für meine letzte Prüfungsleistung angemeldet: die Bachelorarbeit! Ich werde über "Die Geschichte und Entwicklung von Diphthongen in drei Varietäten des Englishen der Südlichen Hemisphäre" schreiben. Der offizielle Zeitraum zum Schreiben ist der 1. Juni - 15. Juli. Das ist schon recht bald....

This is just a short unimportant post to let you all know that my blog has a new face again. I especially like the tree! :-)

Nichts Wichtiges diesmal, ich habe nur das Design meines Blogs geändert. Ich mag vor allem den Baum oben rechts! :-)

Summer University

What I couldn't have known at the beginning of the summer semester is that I would get a scholarship to go to Summer University to Warsaw, Poland, this year to learn the language!
Otherwise I would've taken more time during studies to sketch and doodle a bit.
So, I'll be gone for 6 weeks but I'll take my camera, my sketchbook, watercolour sketchbook and watercolours with me and I hope I can bring back some nice images.
I might only manage to do something like a travel journal, but the important thing is that I'll use my pencil for something other than writing.
I am also not taking my laptop with me, so my major source of distraction won't keep me from doing artsy stuff.

Was ich am Anfang des Semesters nicht hätte wissen können ist, dass ich ein Stipendium für die Sommeruni in Warschau, Polen, bekommen würde um die Sprache dort zu lernen! Sonst hätte ich versucht, während dem Studieren ein wenig mehr zu kritzeln und zu krakeln. Ich werde dann für 6 Wochen weg sein aber nehme meine Kamera, Skizzenbuch, Aquarellskizzenbuch und Aquarellfarben mit und kann hoffentlich einige schöne Bilder mit nach Hause bringen. Vielleicht wird es nur so eine Art Reisetagebuch, aber das Wichtige ist ja, dass ich den Bleistift wieder mal zu etwas anderem als zum Schreiben benutze! Meinen Laptop, den Quell der größten Ablenkung was das Künstlerische betrifft, werde ich nicht mitnehmen. Ich hoffe, das hilft, ein paar Seiten mehr voll zu bekommen. Bis September!

Allergic reaction

.... but to what?
This is exactly what happened to my bad hand on Thursday morning but I haven't got the faintest idea what I am so sensitive to??!?! This kind of freaks me out, it just itches and within 1 minute it's red and swollen with lots of little bumps and then those bumps unite themselves to form about 3 huge bumps...

Chipped wrist bone

Been to the orthopaedist, and the x-ray shows that there are 2 or 3 sharp little chips of bone that cause rhe pressure and pain. He told me to leave the cast on for another week. Supposedly they reattach/regrow to the main bone? Yeah right. I don't think they are going to do that. I'll be back I guess

Left-handed

I will be left-handed for a while. My right arm is/will be in a cast for at least 3 weeks I fear. Current diagnosis: tendosynovitis.
Maybe I can come up with a few 'interesting' left-hand pictures.

Christmas Postcard Painted

I am happy to announce that once and for all I actually painted what I wanted to paint on the day I had set aside for said project in the time I had alotted for it.
The painting is currently at the copy shop waiting to be scanned. Tomorrow morning I will go get it, pay for it, and sit through 8 hours of University till I get back to my flat and my computer where I will finally put some digital finishing touches on it and also possibly put it online.
The 5 people that have seen it so far are very excited about it so it must be good.
